In this two-day fun and informative workshop you’ll learn the basics of the ancient art of mosaic using modern recycled materials such as stained glass and china shards. You’ll be creating a flat framed panel. On day one we’ll discuss design elements, how to prepare your surface, cutting and breaking of tesserae and choices of adhesives or cements. Then you’ll attach your pieces to the frame. On day two, you’ll learn grouting methods and how to finish and polish your mosaic. (Day two may be a bit shorter depending on how speedy you are!) If you have broken china, bits of glass or any other treasures you might want to include, feel free to bring them for your project. Come prepared to have a great time! Class size 8 people.
Mosaics to Go!, April 14, 1:00 am- 4:00 pm, $40 fee includes all materials. Locatin and registration @ Artstream Gallery, Rochester, NH. http://www.artstreamstudios.com/html/art-classes-workshops.htm
Come join us at the inspiring Artstream Gallery for this exciting, fun and spontaneous workshop. Using recycled stained glass and “found objects,” I’ll show you how to create a ready-to-hang mosaic panel in just a few hours. You’ll be surprised at how easy this is and what beautiful results you’ll get. Bring any small bits of glass, including beach glass or shells, china shards, costume jewelry, buttons, etc. you might want to include. I’ll have tons of materials on hand just in case. You don’t want to miss this!
Mosaic on Glass, May 16, 6:30 pm- 9:00pm, $40 fee includes all materials
Have you ever looked at stained glass pieces and wished you could make “something like that”, but felt the art form was too involved/expensive/too much of a commitment? Here is your opportunity to create a stained glass effect using the simplest of materials. In this one-day workshop, we’ll create a hanging stained glass panel in only two and a half hours. I’ll show you how, and you’ll be thrilled with your beautiful results!
Mosaics to Go! June 16, 1pm -4pm, $40, includes all materials. Location and Registration @ The Starving Artist, Keene, NH or online @ http://thestarvingartistcollective.com/
In conjunction with the “Keene Art Walk” beginning on June 1 through June 10 and Kast Hill Studio’s Community Mosaic Project there, I’m offering this workshop for anyone who just couldn’t get enough on the 9th! (Please see my Events page for more on this.)
Using recycled stained glass and china shards along with some “found objects,” I’ll show you how to create a mosaic panel in only a couple of hours. You’ll be surprised at how easy this is, and what beautiful results you’ll get! Bring any small bits of glass, including beach glass or shells, china shards, costume jewelry, buttons, etc. you might want to include. But don’t worry if you don’t have anything, I’ll supply everything you need.
3-D Lightweight Armature for Mosaic Garden Sculpture, August 6-10, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, $500 fee includes all materials. Info on nearby Inns and B & B’s available on request.
Have you ever wondered how an artist builds a structure that can support the weight of concrete and mosaic? It’s not as complicated as you might think! This method is a relatively simple process and yet you’ll end up with an armature that is lightweight and durable. You’ll be surprised at how straightforward this process actually is. Once the armature is constructed, you’ll learn a mosaic technique using recycled stained glass and other materials to cover the cement shell and will come away with a sculpture that can withstand hard weather. Feel free to bring any materials/found objects you may have been saving. This workshop will include demonstrations, resource materials and plenty of hands on work time. And fun. Did I mention fun?

Dear Lizz,
I’m very interested in your 3-D concrete sculpture for mosaic class that I saw advertised in the carving studio in Rutland brochure. Unfortunately I will not be here during that period of time. Will you be giving the course in another location at another time? I have a HUGE box of glazed ceramic stuff ready for mosaic and have been wanting to use it on large outdoor sculpture. Please let me know…
All the best. Sandra Lance
Hi Sandra,
Thanks for the inquiry. I’ll be offering this workshop at my studio in NH this fall. I’ll put you on the email list and let you know the dates asap. Hope to see you then! Lizz
Hi LIzz!
I am very interested in your mosaic on glass workshop on March 7th..but there is no time info on your web site. Since I am thinking of doing this for a birthday present for a Middle school girl… is it during the day or late afternoon evening?
Thank you! Gen
