Private & Small Group Classes

Classes I have offered in the past have included;

Introduction to the Ancient Art of Mosaic
In this fun and informative 2 day class you’ll learn the basics of mosaic using modern materials such as recycled stained glass, mirror pieces and “gems.” You’ll be creating your mosaic on a pre-framed flat panel that will be ready to hang (indoors) when you leave class. On day one, we’ll discuss design elements, how to prepare your surface or substrate, cutting or nipping your pieces and choices of cements and adhesives. Then you’ll create your mosaic using the methods I’ve shown you. On day two, you’ll be ready to grout your mosaic! You’ll learn this and how polish and finish your piece. This workshop is perfect for beginners or anyone wanting to learn the basics to create a beautiful mosaic.

“Pique Assiette” Style Mosaic

Pique Assiette is a form of art that specifically uses broken plates arranged in patterns or designs.  Would you like to learn how to work with pieces of broken china?  We’ll be creating a mosaic picture.  In this 2-day workshop you’ll learn how to use broken china to create fantastic effects.  On day one, I’ll talk about design, color and placement. You’ll learn breaking and cutting techniques for the china.  Then you’ll attach your pieces, learning about adhesives.  On day two, we’ll grout the mosaic, clean and give it a final polish.   This is my favorite style of mosaic making!

Glass on Glass Mosaic
We’ll be using recycled stained glass pieces on a clear glass panel, for a mosaic made to sit in a window or near light.  If you love the stained glass effect but don’t want to deal with the that process, this workshop is for you… I have developed a special technique that creates spectacular effects!

Mosaics to Go!
In just 3 hours you can create a mosaic you’ll be proud to display!  In this workshop you’ll have the option of using a wide variety of mirror, recycled stained glass and small precut glass tiles. You’ll have everything you need to create a beautiful, ready to hang, work of art.

Community Style Projects-Building Community Through the Art of Mosaic

One of the greatest joys in my life is to be able to share what I do with others. As a visiting artist I feel very lucky to be able to spend time building community with various organizations to make their visions come to life as mosaics.  Being a teaching artist on the roster for the NH State Council on the Arts for Arts in Education has given me so many wonderful opportunities.

A Community Mosaic Project is a mosaic that any group of people work on together. I facilitate these mosaics for any club, organization or business. This is a great way to introduce community building to any group of people of any age or ability. There are many ways to make mosaics. Some of the possibilities include mosaic panels built on substrates that can be attached to a wall and permanent mosaics attached directly to a wall. Mosaics can be made for interior or exterior placement. I’m happy to come to you and discuss possibilities.

From the initial meeting to decide on the actual project and artwork, to the excited expressions on the participants faces the first day they see all the materials set out for them, to helping place the tesserae (mosaic pieces) and seeing the images beginning to appear, people are forming important connections with art making. When we work together in a cooperative way and build something we all have a part in, there is a lot of pride in seeing what we can accomplish. We learn to do something lasting and meaningful for everyone. Every piece matters, every person matters. You can see some of these projects on my Media & Acknowledgments page.
